Beyond oak
Oak is the traditional choice for spirit maturation, but it is not the only material capable of influencing flavour.
Different wood species contain different combinations of aromatic compounds. Toasting level, particle size and contact conditions can further change how these compounds are extracted into the spirit.
Different wood, different direction
American and French oak already demonstrate how different wood characteristics can influence aroma and flavour. Looking beyond traditional oak opens an even wider range of possibilities.
The objective is not necessarily to replace barrel maturation. Different woods and wood combinations can be explored as tools for developing new flavour directions.
More variables to control
Wood selection is only one part of the process. Temperature, contact time, circulation and other processing conditions also influence extraction.
A controlled system makes it possible to change these variables deliberately and compare the results.

Test. Compare. Refine.
Instead of relying on a single experiment, producers can prepare several variants, compare them and refine the most promising direction.
This turns wood experimentation into a more structured product-development process.
Different wood. Different conditions. More flavour possibilities.
